Homemade Clay Acne Treatment

Mud masks are great to do for oily/acne prone skin because they absorb excessive oils, help to unclog pores and have a high amount of detoxifying properties. For this at home treatment you will need: mud (usually comes in a powder form from any natural grocery store and can be easily mixed with water), fresh honey, tea-tree oil and a spoon and mixing bowl. Honey has natural hydrating properties, anti-oxidants and promotes healing within the skin. Tea-tree oil is a natural antiseptic agent that also helps promote healing and reduces inflammation.

 Mud Mask Treatment for Acne
-1 tbsp. of mud (already mixed from clay powder)
- 1/2 tsp. of honey
-1 to 2 drops of tea tree oil (a little goes a long way)

In a small bowl, mix the mud and honey until it becomes a smooth paste. Then add the tea tree oil and mix again! Apply evenly to the face avoiding the eyes (tea tree is very aromatic and can cause the eyes to burn if they come into contact). From experience, allowing a clay/mud mask to completely dry on the skin can cause unnecessary dehydration, so try a steamy shower/bath to keep everything moist (this will also open up the pores and allow better penetration of the mask). Leave on for 10 to 12 minutes and then remove with cool water, pat dry with a clean towel and apply your night cream or moisturizer! For moderate to sever acne- you may use this mask 2x times a week allowing 24 hours between applications. For moderate to light acne- 1x a week should be perfect!
